Sidewise — Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 13, 2026
Sidewise is a product-comparison app for Shopify storefronts. It is read-only and collects no personal data.
What we store
- We store nothing on our servers. Sidewise has no database and stores no merchant or shopper data.
- A shopper's current comparison selection is stored only in that shopper's own browser (localStorage). It never leaves the browser and is never sent to us.
Store data
- Sidewise reads product information you already maintain (standard fields, metafields, metaobjects) to render comparisons. It does this through your store's own Shopify storefront, read-only. Sidewise never creates, edits, or deletes any store data.
- Sidewise requests one scope, read_products. The only Admin API call it makes is a read-only lookup of your product metafield definitions, used by the in-admin setup page to help you map comparison rows. This is product configuration data, not customer data, and it is read straight from Shopify in your browser (we store nothing on our servers, no stored token).
Compliance requests
- Sidewise operates a single automated endpoint that responds to Shopify's required privacy/compliance requests (data request, customer redaction, shop redaction). Because Sidewise stores no personal or store data, these requests have nothing to return or delete — the endpoint only confirms the request genuinely came from Shopify and acknowledges it. It receives, parses, and keeps no customer data.
Third parties & tracking
- No third-party services, no advertising, no analytics, no cookies, no tracking.
The app's admin page
- The setup page shown in your Shopify admin stores nothing and sets no cookies. It links you to your theme editor and, only when you click "Find my product metafields", makes a single read-only call to read your product metafield definitions (to help you set up comparison rows). It writes nothing and keeps nothing.
Data retention & deletion
- There is nothing for us to retain or delete. Uninstalling the app removes Sidewise from your storefront; a shopper clearing their browser data clears their selection.
